Chairman - Lloyd Ernst

Lloyd Ernst was one of the founders and CEO of WebCentral Australia's largest Internet web hosting company and founder of PowerUp the largest Queensland based Internet Service Provider.

PowerUp Pty Ltd

An internet enthusiast since before the world wide web made mass access to the internet attractive, Lloyd and three friends established Powerup in the early 80s to provide bulletin board access to other computer enthusiasts. Powerup also provided a vehicle for the distribution of internet software applications written by PowerUp's partners.

Although Lloyd clearly had technical IT interests from an early age, and worked for a subsidiary of mining giant Rio Tinto in London. On his return to Australia in the mid 80s, he took up an Apple Macintosh dealership in Brisbane, before moving to the AppleCentre in Sydney as the Technical Services Manager.

Microsoft Australia, Microsoft Asia Pacific

Lloyd had been an Apple enthusiast since the release of the company's first machines sparked the long and continuing personal computer boom. Lloyd recognised the enormous potential of the then emerging IT giant Microsoft and joined the company's Australian branch as National Applications Trainer in Database and Development Tools, quickly becoming a Technical Marketing Manager for the Asia Pacific Region. His unique and powerful grasp of database functionality and his world-class skill in programming development tools led to his appointment as lecturer to the Microsoft.

Lloyd Ernst became one of the first employees of Microsoft's initial foray into internet services, its partnership in establishing On Australia with Telstra. However, by 1992 Powerup was now growing so rapidly that it required the full-time attention of its directors.

Lloyd became the driving force behind one of the features of the company that has made it one of the few success stories in the internet access provider market - powerful on-line tools to automate customer service and allow clients access to simple controls to customise their own web sites and email access.

WebCentral Pty Ltd

In the early 1997 the directors recognised and seized the opportunity to establish internet services designed specifically for business. WebCentral was established as a business web hosting company, offering cost effective means of mounting and maintaining business sites, including on-line shopping facilities, database functionality and full client control of every aspect of web sites and email communications. Lloyd has grown WebCentral from a fledgling business to Australia?s largest web hosting company, with in excess of 60,000 sites and domains under management. It operates two world-class data centres in Brisbane with over 2000 servers under full management, employs 200 people across the Asia Pacific region and has annualised revenues in excess of $40 million. Audited revenue results for the 2003-4 year reported net profit of $2.4 million
